About Us
Surf Lifesaving began in Hawke's Bay back in 1910, on Marine Parade in Napier, with the formation of the Napier Swimming & Lifesaving Club. In 1958, patrols commenced on Westshore Beach as this became the preferred swimming beach for the Napier public and then in October 1959, the Westshore Surf Life Saving Club was officially formed. We've been going strong ever since!
There are three main parts of the club - these being :
- Junior Surf (7 - 13 years of age, including Oceans Athletes from 10 - 13 years)
- Senior Surf (14+ years)
- Lifeguarding (14+ years)
We also run the Surf Life Saving New Zealand Rookie Lifeguard Programme, which is designed to give lifeguards in the Junior Surf programme who are 13+ a taste of what it's like to patrol as a Senior Lifeguard.

We're a passionate group and, like most Surf Life Saving clubs, are volunteer-run. We're always looking for people to help out and join, so please get in touch.
