Oceans Athletes

If your child is keen on more than just 'Sunday Surf' - Oceans Athletes might be for them!  This group is for athletes 10 - 13 and is an introduction into the competitive side of surf sports. Athletes compete at local and regional carnivals, with training being geared toward the BEST junior surf event of the year - Oceans!  With competitors from all around the country, this is an event that has to be experienced to be believed. It's not just for the 'best-of-the-best' - it's for anyone who wants to give it a go. Oceans has a proud history of being not only the largest Junior Surf Life Saving event in New Zealand, but also the most competitive, exciting and fun! You don't have to compete in all the events, it's up to you!

This season, Oceans will run from 22 - 24 February 2024 at Mt Maunganui Beach.

Training

Oceans Athletes generally train up to five times a week, led by Baylie Young and Charlotte Swayn. Each day will focus on different skills required for competing and it's not compulsory for athletes to attend every session. There are additional fees to cover the coaching and board allocation costs for this group. If you'd like to learn more about Oceans Athletes, please contact Kate Scott, our Oceans Athletes Co-ordinator.
