Junior Events 2023/24
Junior Surf events are broken into beach and water events.
All athletes who wish to partake in water events MUST have passed their 200m swim test and have their badge sewn onto their togs/vest, visible to Officials.
Beach Events
- Beach Sprint - Running over a set distance on the sand (50 - 90m depending on age).
- Beach Relay - Teams of four run a relay over a distance similar to the Beach Sprint.
- Beach Flags - Lying flat on sand, then getting up and running a short distance to grasp lengths of hose standing in the sand.
- Run-Wade-Run - Running through shallow water around a supervised course (usually for younger age groups).
Water Events
- Run-Swim-Run - A race combining two sprints along the beach, separated by a swim leg.
- Surf Race - Swimming from the beach, around an 80m 'U' shaped course.
- Board Race - Similar to the Surf Race, but paddling boards around the course.
- Diamond Race - A race including swimming and paddling a board around a set course, followed by a run to the finish.
- Bodyboard Race - Paddlers complere a 'U' shaped course.
Junior Surf Events for the 2023/23 season:
- Sunday 10 December - Junior Carnival (Westshore).
- Friday 12 January - Central Region Junior Champs (Fitzroy, Taranaki)
- Sunday 21 January - Junior Carnival (Ocean Beach)
- Wednesday 14 February - HB Junior Twilight Rescue Event (CHB) (For athletes attending Oceans '24)
- Thursday 22 - Sunday 25 February - Oceans (Mt Maunganui)
- Sunday 3 March - Hawke's Bay Junior Champs (Waimarama)
